Ants by Liam Ohlendorf

It is not the nature of an ant to question why
a magnifying glass would take aim
both at the sun and the ant. Why rays

of light might meet one side of a convex
lens and come to a point at the other.
Why concentrated heat causes solid carbon

to burst into flames. Why a grandfather
would hand his grandson a magnifying glass
and suggest the boy point it at some ants.

Why he would tell his grandson he loved him
and have fun while walking back inside. Why
the boy would do as his grandfather said.

Why the boy did it with a smile on his face.
